UPDATE – Fake News

A couple of weeks ago, Mike Pence called all the promises the Democrats ever made about Obamacare ‘fake news.’  Well, there was plenty of news this week showing just how fake Obamacare is in many respects:

Everywhere you turn now, there’s another story about how popular Obamacare has become since the election.  It’s all fake.  Democrat pollsters cook up phony poll numbers and complicit media serve them up to you without any hesitation.  The poll questions are rigged – ‘do you like Obamacare’s community rating mandate?’, for example.  Community rating is what makes young people pay more so older people can pay less.  That’s like asking ‘do you want free ice cream?’ Support for community rating drops significantly when the poll question includes the cost of the mandate.  The polls also leave out the fact that the replacement components under discussion – HSAs, selling insurance across state lines – are popular.

Obamacare sure isn’t very popular with the people stuck on it.  Get this:  customer satisfaction with Obamacare plans dropped from 77 percent just a year ago to only 22 percent today.  Another year of premium increases, lack of choice of insurance companies and doctors, and declining benefits has made customers hate Obamacare – not to mention the fake customer service they’re getting.  Good luck trying to talk to someone about your claim or your denial.  Customer service is not going well, one story said.

Then there are the fake statistics we see everywhere now.  ‘Obamacare covered 20 million people’ they keep saying but, it turns out, that was only an estimate and 8 out of 10 newly covered are welfare cases resulting from Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion.

They keep saying how wonderful it is that people with preexisting conditions can’t be denied coverage under Obamacare, but there was another story this week showing that’s pretty fake, too.  Patients with preexisting conditions are being hit with high deductibles and co-pays, and skimpy drug coverage.  Prescriptions are the major expense for a lot of them, so their Obamacare plans are not nearly as good as they thought they were going to be.  There were stories like this a year ago about AIDS patients so, apparently, the situation hasn’t gotten any better.

Remember when Obama said he wouldn’t accept any healthcare bill that added to the deficit and the Democrats waited until CBO scored the cost of Obamacare under a trillion dollars over ten years?  Now we know that Obamacare could only have reduced the deficit IF the Medicare cuts, the ratcheting down of the tax credits, and the Cadillac tax all take effect as scheduled.  That’s a lot of ‘if’s’ and none of them are likely to happen.  More fakery.  Instead of a law that cuts the deficit, we have a law that ADDS to the deficit and will keep right on doing so.

Then there’s John Kasich’s fake claims of success.  He continues to tell people that the Bible told him to spend the next generation into oblivion and that his pen-and-a-phone Medicaid expansion in Ohio is wonderful.  Not true.  Medicaid expansion in Ohio is $2.9 billion over budget in just the first two years, but you won’t hear that from him – big phony.  The days of ‘free money’ for Medicaid expansion are over.  You aren’t hearing states screaming much about the cost yet, but you will when the numbers start coming in.  How do I know?  Because Medicaid expansion has blown past projections in every single state where it’s been adopted.  Those states will rue the day they went down that road.

Finally, I mentioned last week that 60 percent of Facebook posts defending Obamacare are fake, coming from paid activists, not grass roots.  I tweeted that on Monday and it was an instant success.  It was the most popular tweet we had all week.

UPDATE – If You Like Your Administrator….

There was plenty of bad news about Obamacare again this week:

  • We were promised ‘if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.’  One woman recently found out that the price of keeping her doctor was a premium increase from $188 a month to $773 a month under Obamacare.
  • The insurance company Molina said it might drop its Obamacare business next year.  Molina has been profitable but just reported huge losses because of Obamacare’s risk adjustment provision.  That requires profitable insurers to subsidize unprofitable insurers.  One observer said profitable insurers might leave the Obamacare marketplace because of this mechanism.  Molina is threatening to leave, so this is one prediction that might actually come true.
  • The genius masterminds of the Obama administration had 6 years to stabilize the ACA and come up with a viable risk pool that wasn’t too old and sick to support itself.  But they couldn’t.  They gave it their best shot and failed completely. Pajama Boy just wasn’t up to the job.
  • Speaking of jobs, Obamacare will destroy two million jobs by 2025 unless it’s repealed.  Half of all New York manufacturers are raising deductibles, because of Obamacare.
  • CBO expects the cost of Obamacare subsidies to be $42 billion this year and to more than double to $97 billion by 2027.  Medicaid spending is expected to reach $650 billion the same year because of Medicaid expansion, which is part of Obamacare.  We already knew that one in ten Medicaid dollars goes to waste, fraud and abuse, but the Comptroller General said this week the problem is actually worse than that, because managed care providers – which deliver Medicaid in several states – haven’t been examined yet for waste, fraud, and abuse.  Folks, none of this is sustainable and this is another reason we need full repeal.
  • There was another story this week about how the UnAffordable Care Act is driving people into short-term insurance – which doesn’t have to comply with Obamacare – and health-sharing ministries.  There are escape hatches to Obamacare and people are using them.
  • Remember how the genius masterminds were going to ‘bend the cost curve down’ by getting rid of insurance company administrators? Maybe that happened, but a whole bunch of new government bureaucrats climbed on board healthcare after Obamacare, driving up costs.  We knew that already, but this week it was reported that the number of healthcare administrators also went way up under Obamacare, to HALF of all healthcare workers.  That means, for every doctor or nurse, there’s an administrator standing next to them, telling them what to do or checking off boxes.  Hospital administrators typically make over $300,000 a year, more than most doctors.  That’s a lot of money for paper-pushing.  You can thank Obama for having so many more mouths to feed with your healthcare dollar.
  • Finally, it may seem like there’s a big groundswell of support for Obamacare lately, but some of what you are seeing is FAKE.  Yesterday, it was reported that 60 percent of Facebook posts defending Obamacare are coming from paid activists – professionals – not the grass roots.  So take everything you’re seeing with a grain of salt and see me in the morning.

The Obamacare Perfect Storm

Comment: The personal story below shows quite clearly that the genius masterminds who gave us Obamacare screwed up – BIG TIME!  This woman lost her plan AND her doctor after the Patient PROTECTION and Affordable Care Act made it impossible for her employer to help her.  If you don’t care about her story, there’s something wrong with you.

My name is Ericka Nicholson and I am the City Manager and EMS director in Quinter Kansas.  You asked on facebook about problems with insurance due to changes with the ACA – I would like to share the below with you and if you feel any is relevant you have my permission to share.

The City of Quinter hired me to come back to my hometown to be the City Manager and EMS director.   The City cannot afford a group insurance plan, so prior to 2015 the City of Quinter paid their employees single premium directly.   This was a cost saving to me of $381  (It was a blue cross blue shield select plan).   The following year (first year of ACA) BC/BS notified me that this plan was no longer available in my area and I had to choose another plan.    When 2015 rolled around, I then was notified by the auditors of the City of Quinter that due to changes in the ACA, this could no longer happen – the City could no longer pay my policy directly.    There was NO WAY my employer (City of Quinter) could afford a group plan so I LOST my insurance altogether.   I was able to get on my husband’s insurance through the school where he teaches, but the payroll deduction for this hit us hard, and it is a very high deductible and the premiums have doubled.   I did check into getting insurance through the exchange but the only plan I qualified for had worse coverage than my husband’s and we did not qualify for any kind of tax credit or subsidy.   We basically had no control whatsoever and were held hostage by huge cost hikes.

My child is independently insured by his father who pays a monthly premium.   AGAIN during open enrollment with BC/BS in October of 2016, we were notified that the plan we’d been on NO LONGER existed – so we picked a premium BC/BS plan called “Blue Select” which is the best policy they have.    I was notified by Children’s Mercy (where my child’s pediatric endocrinologist is) that THEY NO LONGER PARTICIPATE WITH BLUE SELECT!   The Children’s Mercy website updated their insurances for 2017 and the list is quite long.   This was where my child’s specialist was – so we had to rush to find a Coventry policy that has lower premiums, but also much lower coverage for pharmacy and specialist visits.   How does the state’s largest provider of Insurance cut out the Region’s largest Pediatric specialist resource????     When I called BC/BS they stated it was due to mandated changes in the ACA.

Promises of ACA vs My experience:
‘Your plan won’t change’ – mine not only changed but went away
‘You won’t lose your doctor’ – LOST my doctor

UPDATE – Going on Offense

The repeal of Obamacare appears to be on track, but it’s not a done deal yet.  The Democrats are fighting very hard to keep it.  Our main job at the Truth Squad is to continue giving you fresh ammunition to keep fighting for repeal.  There have been lots of news stories in the last two weeks that will enable you to get out of a defensive crouch and go on offense against Obamacare.  All the links to what I’m about to say will be in the wrap-up.

  • A month ago, they were crowing about ‘record enrollment’, but enrollment is actually DOWN 400,000 from last year and is still only about half of what they originally told us it would be, when they were saying Obamacare was gonna be so great.
  • Despite all the subsidies, Obamacare only added 2.3 million people to the private insurance rolls, at a cost of almost $30,000 apiece.
  • One reason Obamacare costs so much is that administrative costs have more than doubled under the ACA.  Insurer administrative costs are down, but the government bureaucracy needed to handle all this has exploded.
  • The number of insurers on the exchanges went down 30 percent in just the last year.   Seventy percent of all U.S. counties are down to just one or two insurers.  The mean old Republicans didn’t have anything to do with that; Obamacare just doesn’t work.
  • The insurance picture isn’t going to get any better, either.  Humana just reported a 69 percent drop in the number of its Obamacare customers, and almost a $500 million quarterly loss. Aetna expects a loss this year and is refusing to expand its Obamacare business next year.
  • Obamacare didn’t give anybody peace of mind.  More Americans than ever report that healthcare costs are their biggest financial worry.  A Nebraska woman lost her plan for the fourth time under Obamacare.  A woman in Colorado is wondering how she’s going to manage a $20,000 out-of-network deductible on her Obamacare plan.
  • Meanwhile, the Obamacare medical device tax has destroyed 28,000 jobs, and one in four small businesses say they will not expand, because of Obamacare.
  • Here’s another line of attack: the Trump administration should release all the Obama-era documents discussing the roll-out of Obamacare.  Let’s just see how much they were hiding about the slush funds, the Healthcare.gov train wreck, and all the games they were playing to go beyond what Congress wrote in the statute.
  • The truth is, the main thing that Obamacare did was put millions of more people on Medicaid.  Millions of more people on welfare is a great triumph ONLY if you’re a politician trying to buy votes.
  • And, finally, my personal favorite:  Thirty to forty percent of the people calling in to the Obamacare exchanges are not calling up to ask a question.  They’re calling to say they can’t wait for this thing to go away.

And that’s just the news from the last two weeks, folks.  All this news should make us VERY happy warriors.  Go get’em.
